Lilli Adams works for Bridger Cleaning Services in Bozeman, Montana after retiring from her previous life as a university professor when the English department becomes implicated in a student tragedy. Lilli cannot cope with this tragedy initially and decides to return to her previous home in Bozeman where she felt her life was rich and complete. Lilli goes on a circuitous search where she returns to the homes of those she suspects are involved and uncovers the truth of what happened during the post-war period when three geologists associated with the mines smuggled the blue diamond. As Lilli uncovers the history of blue diamonds and their worth, she finds herself embedded in the greed and passions that revolves around the wealth and rarity of the blue.
